If you need a job you have to look at several advertisements. Jobs are advertised in daily papers, magazines, professional journals on the internet and in Job centres. To apply for a job you have to write your CV and a cover letter and send it to the company. If the company finds you suitable for the job, you may have to go to a job interview. Apart from some personal details your CV must contain your education, work experience and language skills.
Your job can be a full-time and a part time job. In Hungary you have to work 40 hours a week, if you have a full-time job, while if you have a part-time job you only have to work 4 or 6 hours a day which depends on your contract.
There are also permanent and temporary or seasonal jobs. A temporary job is a kind of job which you only get for a limited period of time for example for summer holiday. If you get a permanent job it means you have to do it until they make you redundant or you quit.
Salary is the money you get for your work at the end of the month. For some kinds of jobs you get wages which means you receive your money at the end of every week.
As far as I know the most popular jobs in Hungary nowadays are economic and business jobs, lawyer and jobs connected to computer science. The reason of their popularity is that people expect a good salary for working in these fields. The job you get depends mainly on your education and work experience. I think salary is one of the most important factor when choosing a career but it is also really important to be interested in that kind of job.
Nowadays, because of the developing of communication, more and more people work alone at home. In my opinion it has both advantages and disadvantages. On one hand you don’t have to drive to the office every day and you don’t have to get up so early in the morning. Furthermore you don’t have your boss’s attention at you all the time. On the other hand it can be boring to work alone and you don’t meet your colleagues regularly so you can’t make friends.
If you work in an office you may have to work in a team. I think working in a team can be interesting because you are less bored and you can discuss everything. On the other hand it can be nerve-racking when you can’t agree with each other on anything.
Most people change their jobs several times in their lives. The most frequent reason for changing one’s job is being made redundant. He or she has to leave either because the firm goes bankrupt or closes down or because the employer is not satisfied with his or her work. There might be family reasons as well. Some people have to change jobs because of their health. There are also people who change for a better-paid job or one with better benefits. Others change jobs just because they feel that they need a change.
There must be regular discussions between the employer and the employees where they talk about all aspects of work. They should feel free to share opinions concerning problems, possible suggestions and solutions. Employees can be motivated by being promoted or offered more money and benefits. They could be given more challenging and rewarding tasks and more responsibility.
You can take a day-off at every workplaces. A day-off is a day when you don’t have to work. Most people have two days off a week, Saturday and Sunday, but it can also happen that you need a day-off during the week for some reason. Employees are entitled to a certain number of days a year as their paid holiday. In Hungary if you are ill, you go on a sick leave and get less pay for that period.
In Hungary the usual retirement age is 65 but it depends on what your job is. Retired people may have to cope with financial problems and they can be bored because of the lack of work. In Hungary usually the families look after the elderly but there are also homes for them where they get everything they need and there are doctors and nurses to look after them.
